Grab Him By The Shoulders

In Progress; Film, Photography, Audio & Installation Art

Tanya’s father passed away on January 19, 2019 from an eight-year battle with cancer. In those eight years, her and her father worked on quite a few projects together - projects that Tanya wanted to create in order to hold on to him, to build a bank of memories of him. This content ranged from studio portraits to environmental portraiture to a surreal film set to audio recordings of her Dad telling her stories from when he was a child, romping around Vancouver’s Kitsilano neighborhood in the 1940s and 50s. We are currently building a project from all of this content. Below is a short film that we created with him while he was still alive.

“Even if I do leave you, I will have passed on to you something of myself; you will be a different person because of knowing me; it’s inescapable…” (The Lonely Girl)
